"The Deep and Snowy Wood" is an incredibly good children's picture book. The illustrations are wonderful and will definitely appeal to both children and adults alike. Some children's books I have seen recently had nice illustrations, but the writing was not well done. There is no danger of that with this book, because the writing is excellent. Rhymes actually rhyme and are not forced, the grammar and spelling are good, verses match the illustrations, and the story line is fun and very appealing. The author has done a very professional job and this book is destined to be a classic.Those who want a book guaranteed to amuse the young readers in their lives will not be disappointed in this book. I recommend snapping it up now, because I can see the price going up on this book, deservedly so. It's a wonderful book and it's a bargain. I got it for free but the regular price is only $1.99 at this time. If I saw this book in a store, I would expect the price to be substantially higher, and it would be worth it. I would give it way more than 5 stars if I could.
This is a professional kindle book for children, a rare find these days. The illustrations were whimsical and the text flowed around with the cold winter wind. In the end the animals found Christmas day which featured Santa on his sleigh and a nativity in the woods. I viewed it in my cloud reader when I bought it this morning but I can't wait to get it on my Kindle fire HD to show to my daughter!
"The Deep and Snowy Wood" is a lovely little book, written as a poem, in which a number of different animals each travel separately through the deep, snowy wood. They meet and wait for something - until they hear the bells of Santa's sleigh and all know it is Christmas Day. I particularly liked that on the next-to-last page, where everyone knows " ...it's Christmas Day!" that Tate included a Nativity scene and acknowledges, visually, the true meaning of Christmas.Elwyn Tate is one of my grandson's favorite authors, and one of my favorites to read aloud to him. Tate writes well; his rhymes are not awkward, nor is the story forced in any one direction to create a rhyme. "The Deep and Snowy Wood" is beautifully illustrated. The charming pictures are more detailed and have more depth and visual interest than the illustrations of many current children's books. The text flows, following the wind current, to provide visual movement and action. In several illustrations, the animals appear almost three-dimensional."The Deep and Snowy Wood" is a book that little ones will delight in having parents or grandparents read aloud to them.
I LOVE books by Elwyn Tate. The words flow so easily and the writing is so creative. Not to mentioned the beautiful art work. Mabel & The Sock Pirates was our first Tate book and when I saw "The Deep and Snowy Wood" was released, I had to have it. The ending is great, but I won't ruin it for others! :) Can't wait for more releases!!!
The illustrations in this book are beautiful! The story is a playful rhyming one of animals' journeying toward Christmas Day. Christmas is only mentioned at the end, so this book could be enjoyed year around - have your kid make up and draw a new location for the animals' destination for an activity to change it up.I got this book free, but it's worth buying.
What fantastic illustrations! Did the author produce the beautiful pictures and the words? This is so professional and such a classic - what a rare jewel to find among the Kindle Daily free downloads. How cute but not "too cute" or cutesy; how accurately the animals are drawn, yet with endearing expressions. The air of suspense builds. The word choices are perfect for beginning readers. Repeated words are part of learning to read, and these never feel tedious (like See Dick run, See Jane run).In a good way, this reminds me of a classic from my own childhood, Davey Deer and his Red Scarf. I spent a silly number of hours of my life staring at the pictures and reading, re-reading the words. (But nothing could ever top Captain Kitty.)The Deep and Snowy Wood is sure to be just as loved by future grandchildren (no sign of any in the near future, but books like this remind me how much fun it's going to be).
It's a shame that you've got to point out when a picture book is formatted correctly to take up the whole screen, but unfortunately the majority of authors can't be bothered to do so in these early days of Kindle books. But with the three books by Elywn Tate that I've read, it is evident that this author is someone who cares about the reading experience of their work as the each of their Kindle books display the colourful pages across the whole screen in landscape (it won't let you read it in portrait) mode. The text is part of the colourful image. This book just looks really good on the screen. Like you are watching some screen shots of a Pixar movie or something. The illustrations are crisp, and a fun shape based in their look cartoon style.It's a very basic Christmas time plot, a couple of different animals are either run, run, running, or hop, hop, hopping, or dig, dig digging to a mysterious destination. Why? That is the question other animals ask so of course they follow.
