This book is true to its name it is a getting started guide. The guide goes through a brief history of Raspberry Pi, what you need to get started in terms of additional hardware, and how to build the SD card to install/run the OS.If you are new to Linux this book goes through some of the basic features of Linux and some useful applications. It then goes on to talk about overclocking the Pi and some other performance related tweaks. There are also a few sections about how to setup the Pi to be media server and a basic introduction to writing a "Hello World" program. This is by no means a comprehensive book on programming so you'd need to supplement that aspect with another book.Because of my technical background I found a lot of the information to be a little too introductory but for someone who is looking into Pi for the first time will appreciate this guide more. One thing I didn't feel like got addressed well was the GPIO (General Purpose Input Output) which allows you to connect sensors and other external pieces of hardware. While the Pi can perform light computer tasks to me its really a prototyping board and being able to connect external hardware should have been a big focus.
This is an indispensable introduction for a new Raspberry Pi owner who is looking for a basic understanding of what a Pi is, who to get it up and running, how to tweak and maintain it, and what it can be used for. For a very reasonable $0.99, the new user can save themselves a lot of time and confusion, and significantly enhance their experience.
This ebook accomplished exactly what it set out to do, introduce a novice to Raspberry Pi. It lightly covers many applications for this small computer without going into technical “mumbo jumbo”. After providing the basics, it lists websites one can visit to learn more - good luck with the tech speak at those sites. This short text was well worth the price paid. I recommend it to those who want a short, but understandable description of the many potential uses for Raspberry Pi.
Well written introduction to the use of the Raspberry Pi. This is a general discussion of the Raspberry Pi and a realistic picture of its capability. It serves it's purpose of providing very basic understanding of the Pi and leaving the reader hungry for more.Mission Accomplished
I purchased this book with my purchase of my very first Raspberry Pi and I personally found it very useful. I love my Raspberry Pi and I will be getting another. For anyone starting out with a Raspberry Pi this is a good beginning.
this book is clearly written and well laid out but ultimately lacks depththe chapter 'Networking with Pi'had me hoping i could solve some issues i was having but it was just about some of the things i could do if i got it on the internet.this would be more at home as a brief introductory magazine article than a book.because the style and layout are good, if it had some technical content, it would be great.please write version 2.0thanks for listening
I received this book as a gift, and when I saw the cover, I had no idea what this was. I had never even heard about the Raspberry Pi until recently. Like a lot of people, I was thinking "PIE" not "Pi." Then I started reading about this amazing little computer that is only $35. Imagine a computer the size of a credit card that can do most anything your PC or laptop can do, at a fraction of the size and about 1/10th the price! And the price...wow...that has to be the most amazing thing of all. You'll still need to have some basic components before you get started, like a keyboard, a monitor, and some cables, but you probably already have those things at home. This book is very detailed and contains a LOT of information. There is so much information included here that by the time you've finished reading it, you'll have gone from a Raspberry Pi novice to a pro.Forget Apple, Raspberry Pi is the next big thing in home computers. Everyone will want one, and it won't hurt your wallet either (unlike Apple's insanely high priced products.) This book is a great starting point.
A good introduction to Raspberry Pi but was more how it can be used as a cheap computer. There was very little information on the flexibility of the unit and what can be done programmatically to integrate it into other projects.
