My family is from Hawaii so much of my cooking is based on how they cook there. That being said, I found this cookbook to be a very "comfort food" type of book where almost all the recipes were somewhat familiar to me but still interesting, as they had new variations I wanted to try. This is very much in the tradition of the cookbooks produced by community centers or churches: family (ohana) recipes shared with little stories about their family histories. These aren't fancy or impressive recipes nor does the book try to give you an entire range of the Hawaiian experience (or whatever you might call it). The recipes are very approachable, though, and if you want to expand your family's dinner menu, give it a try.

Wonderful Hawaiian recipes...beautiful pictures! Gift for daughter who was born there but lives on the "main land".

So, so good.
