The first edition of this book was amazing! I've loaned it to teachers and camp councilors. It made an amazing difference in my child's quality of life because it explained Sensory Processing Disorder so well without leaving out the sensory seekers and it addressed that sometimes the behavior changes from seeking to avoiding. Most folks know about the children with SPD who avoid sensory input because it is just too much, but there are a lot of children to seek more input or are a combination depending on what the sense they are dealing with.The second edition simplifies too much. It cuts out some amazing things included in the first edition like:- the simplification of the paragraph that discussed different types of smiles on the SIGHT page- the deletion of how Gabriel spends his energy trying *not* to listen to things and the deletion of unexpected noises like fire drills on the HEARING page- removing the information about how Gabriel likes to touch lots of things and focusing mostly on avoiding uncomfortable touch sensations on the TOUCH page.- I miss the sentences on the SMELL page "At school there are lots of smells that most people don't notice, but Gabriel does!" and "Some days Gabriel can feel the opposite too - and want to smell everything - even the markers."For the pages I didn't mention, I like the way they were better in the first edition. As I read the 2nd edition is too one sided and to simplified. It doesn't help to teach that SPD kids can change their behavior based on the way their body feels and that is an amazing point to help them understand themselves and for those who live with them and love them.
