Cindy Wimmer is the best wire worker I have seen come to the fore in recent years. In this book, THE MISSING LINK, she devotes her skills to sharing her knowledge of creating inventive and unique wire links. These links enable the jewelry designer, no matter what kind of beads or whatever he or she prefers to work with, to add depth to any sort of design.As you will see, the book is basically two books in one.The first section teaches the reader how to make the links which will then be employed in all sorts of cool and inspiring ways, by the author and some of her famous and very creative friends, including Christine Damm, Lori Anderson, Kerry Bogert, Tracy Statler, and Diane Cook. This quintet "quintuples" the fun, as all of them design differently, and yet the links created by the author play an elemental and intriguing part in each project.The basic point the author makes, and makes very clearly and well, leads off her introduction.Here, she says, "The wire link as a functional component is at the heart of handcrafted jewelry."She is so right!And off she goes to prove it, in a most instructive and entertaining way.After the sections on wire, tools and techniques (the last of which has lots of great tips) comes the first major part of the book.This is titled: "Now Starring: The Wire Links".In this section the reader gets a great selection of thirty different wire links which are absolutely wonderful and great. The author gives you a level of difficulty on each link, and lots of tips are given here as well on how to make what you have decided to create even better. Some of these rings are so neat it is fun just to discover what can be done with some very simple tools and some wire.
