Get Their Name: Grow Your Church By Building New Relationships

As a church leader, you are (probably) targeting the wrong people with your ‘evangelism’ efforts. You are operating a model that no longer works, because it is too passive, too polite, and focused in the wrong direction. You are not making new disciples, not adding significantly to Christ’s transformation of the world. And you—or at least your congregation--are (probably) unaware of this fact. There is hope, and you will find it in these pages. Farr, Kotan and Anderson reveal the ways most churches unwittingly misdirect their reach into the community. The authors show in practical terms how to change the habits of leaders and entire congregations, so that invitation is natural, constant, systemic, genuine, and easy. Get Their Name clearly demonstrates how your church can change, and equips your people to share their faith in a way that is effective, biblical, and transformational.

Amazingly clear thought processes and writing. This book can be used by any church group to get people thinking outside of the traditional "Churchy" ways of doing business. It argues in a compelling way for building relationships outside of our comfort zones and outside of our congregations if we hope to survive. My only struggle is that it occasionally stoops to the numbers game as justification for reaching out to those outside of the church. "We need more people, so that is why we need to do this." I would argue that we need to meet people where they are because Jesus did not wait in the Temple or Synagogue for people to come to him but went to where the "sinners" of his day hung out. His followers must do the same to follow faithfully.

This is a great look at how to INTENTIONALLY be about the business of Evangelism. If every church would ask the most important question this book asks. "What is out Strategy to connect un-connected people to Christ. Really nothing all that new here but presented in a great and fresh way. I dare every UMC to study this book together and then change.

Good ideas to reach those not attending church. So simply that any church can do it. The ideas may stimulate your thinking to modify the specific approach. It is also challenging as it ask to think about making contact with non-Christians every week. It recommends that you spend 25 percent of your time making contacts. I agree that too often we spend more time visiting with those who are not attending rather than trying to reach new people. I also agree that part of the reason we are not growing the church is because we are not talking to people.

I really enjoyed the information presented in this text. It was not only an easy read, but it had many great "tidbits" of information that many churches forget to do as they look to fulfil the Great Commission. If you're going to buy one text, I'd recommend this one.

Get Their Name is an excellent book that every Christian needs to read! For mainline church-goers who wonder "Why are we declining?" this will not only answer your question but give you a solution!

The church I attend started something called the Healthy Church Initiative. In researching it I found that the leader of the initiative wrote this book, so out of curiosity I ordered it. I found it gives a good recipe for getting relational evangelism started in a church, starting at the kindergarten level. I made my brother aware of it, and he just told me he thinks it is great.

The book is a guide for what churches can do next, at least Methodist churches, to spread the God's message. I'm sure there are many approaches to grow your church for Christ and this approach is well outlined.

This book provides a simple plan for evangelism that any church can follow, no matter it's size. It is written in clear, easy to understand language, and provides links to and titles of other helpful resources. It is a good overview for how to grow a church in the 21st century.
