If you want a book filled with illustrations on knives this isn't quite it. If you want a book that is primarily a database of knifemakers, manufacturers, services, suppliers, and dealers then this is your book -comprehensive. On my Kindle 8.9 the pictures run out and the listings start at location 3285 of 16509 and indicates 23%. As a pix book to satisfy your knife fantasies - good pix of art knives but not enough factory or semi-custom.
Beautiful knife art. I didn't know this craft existed. I used this as a GIFT BOOK to a friend and he loved it. I would like to have seen more photos on the process of making knives, but I was compensated by the beautiful photographs of works of knife art. Enjoyable and for the price a very good buy.
It only shows partial pictures of the knives often times omitting the most important part of the knife,The Tip of the knife.
This was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my husband but I gave it to him early and he loved it. He has a huge knife collection and some of the knives -according to the book-is valuable. thank you
For two reasons this is a book all knife enthusiasts will love. Lastly because I own "The Viking Knife by Peter Cary" . Actually this copy went to my friend Lloyd Hale as a gift, he being one of the top knife makers on the world. His complete story is in this book and for a Hale Collector or admirer a must read.
This is basically an oversized special-issue of Blade Magazine... which is what I was looking for. It has some interesting articles, including a fine piece by Michael Janich about his personal history with 'tactical folders'; if it were anyone else, that might seem lame, but fortunately, Janich played an integral role in the modern history of tactical knives, so his perspective is pretty damn interesting. Much of the page-space is devoted to blade porn, of course. You get hundreds of pages of beautifully photographed custom knives, most of them by American Bladesmith Society members. This means lots of traditional Bowies and Fighters, lots of Mammoth-tusk and brass bolsters and mosaic Damascus. The majority are knives too pretty for using, really, but there's also a selection of more 'cutting edge' designs, i.e. tactical flippers dressed up in Mokume and Moku-ti, 'Timascus', 'lightning strike' carbon fiber, 'Super-Collider' and 'Super-Conductor' and Zirconium... which are also too pretty and pricey for using. There's also a huge reference section, essentially a phonebook for the knife community, which takes up more space than it should, given the book's cover price. This is information you can easily find online. Needless to say, it's a book for hardcore knife-aficionados only.
It is a beautiful book. However, it is not that useful. I wish I had bought a different one. Perhaps I didn't read the description carefully enough.
SEE MY REVIEW OF THE 2015 AND 2016 ISSUES - All a total waste of time and money. Crap published by BLADE magazine to capitalize and squeeze $$ out of knife collectors.THERE IS VIRTUALLY NOTHING OF INTEREST IN THESE PUBLICATION and certainly nothing that cannot be found for FREE online, with more info!
