First of all, I will admit I am reviewing the sample. I am a knitter with over 20 years experience. The basic information in the beginning only goes as far as choosing yarn and needles. Casting On and Binding Off instructions are not written in the beginning. Some patterns list needles in USA sizing, some Europeon, which can be confusing for a new knitter. A 5mm needle and size 5 USA are very different! As another reviewer mentioned, the patterns in this book, refer "the photo for reference only" is a link to the pattern itself taken from another author's blog, or a manufacturer's website. If the author of the book has permission to publish, no foul. If not...then there is an issue as to what is public domain and what is the intellectual property of the original author. There are a lot of blog writers that use their blog as an extra income stream by having click through ads on their site. There is excellent information on the internet if one wants to learn how to knit, both free and paid patterns and tutorials. Free: Knitty.com, Ravelry.com, knitting central.com . YouTube is a great source for technique tutorials. Craftsy.com offers both free and paid classes. Your local yarn shop, where the owner can help you select needles and the appropriate yarn for your first project and the group that meets there will be happy to teach you, as many avid knitters are quite evangelical about the craft. This is my opinion on the sample. based on the quality of the first 6 weeks of knitting and the other questions I had, I was not interested in purchasing the book. Edit: I wrote to the picture reference for the January 15 pattern. She did not give permission for the use of her photograph.
This book used used a picture of one of my original hand knit beanies as a reference picture for a pattern. The pattern wouldn't have even made a beanie similar to mine. I did not give permission to use my picture or pattern. I had to remove my Etsy listing that they were using. My designs and pictures are not to be used without permission.
This person is ripping off free patterns from other knitters on the web and claiming them as her own. The links she's adding for "photo references" are the actual patterns.
I was always interested in knitting since my grandmother taught me as young girl. I hadn't picked it up since then and I was determined to do so. I also wanted to make a few gifts for my loved ones since Christmas was closing in on us. This book is a great resource. It helped me brush up on some knitting basics like reading patterns and needle conversions which gave me a bit more confidence before I jumped into my first project. I got warmed up with really simple blanket and then I was on a roll. The book has a fantastic selection of projects to learn from. A must have for any beginning knitter or hobbyist looking for a great challenge.
Would have like pictures of the items we're making. That way we get more enthusiastic to make the project. Okay.
365 patterns and not a single photograph in this book. You can either knit on faith, or hand enter a web address into your browser - a different address for every photo, mind you, they're not even collected onto the same page! - if you want to see what the end result will be. What a ridiculous concept.
A great book for both newbies and advanced knittersI knew absolutely nothing about knitting before downloading this book, but I have a couple of friends who knit. They made it look so easy, I thought it was something I could just pick up. But I was wrong! It was confusing to me—maybe it’s because I’m a southpaw and everyone tried to teach me was right-handed (that ended up being the issue when I tried to learn to crochet). This book made all the difference. Once I finally got to know the basic stitches, I decided to try some different patterns. This wonderful book has a new pattern for every single day of the year. Some are difficult and some are much easier, but each one is a challenge to me to learn, as a relative newbie. From scarves to shawls to hats, this book has everything. But looking ahead, I think I’m going to love the Kitty Tunnel for my two fur-babies. This book is simple, easy to follow, and lists everything you’ll need to get started on your next knitting project. It’s not just Grandma’s hobby anymore. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to knit. It’s perfect for both beginners and advanced knitters.
I wish I had discovered this book when my Grandmother was still with us. I didn’t have the patience to learn how to knit back then and now, I am wishing I had paid closer attention. This wonderful guide tells you everything you need to know about knitting and crocheting and gives beautiful photos of the finished item as well as step by step instructions that are so easy to follow.I love the charts and tutorials in the beginning that explain how to read the patterns. The large print is so easy to read too. There are some excellent tips and helpful advice. I have already learned so much about the proper needle sizes and applications, it is well worth the cost! The patterns are a variety of difficulties so newbie knitters can find easy patterns and so can advanced knitters. This is a one-stop guide to keep you busy all year.
