Very detailed guide to old jewelry through the Victorian era to the modern. Divided into time periods going into the history, fashions, & trends with jewelry. Many pictures & prices. Lovely to look at & with a lot of information. Good for both dealers & collectors alike.
I think this book is a good primer, but I expected it to be organized somewhat differently. I thought it would start from the basics about gems, i.e. their possible colors and cuts, the methods employed for making jewelry, and then start to discuss the types of things that were popular in different periods. I pretty much just launches into the stuff and the background stuff seems to be included as an afterthought.
This is a really great book. So much to know about old jewelry. Nice illustrations and wonderful descriptions of the History and Art of antique jewelry.
Very informative- would have preferred to have a full compliment of dates on all jewelry pieces. But overall well done...
