I love this book. It is very informative. The pictures are great! And I love how the book goes in depth about the designers of the day. It's starts with Victorian jewelry and moves on to modern day jewelry. Then It proceeds to feature popular designers. And in the back of the book there are examples of the different signatures these designers used on there jewelry. There is also a section on components and findings. There is a price guide which all collectors know are subjective, to condition and rarity of a piece. But all in all I would highly recommend this book to anyone that lovesvintage costume jewelry. It's a beautiful book that will certainly make you drool!!
Very well-written, with beautiful photographs, including many showing detail and reverse sides of pieces. In addition to a timeline and history by decade, and a section devoted to major designers, this guide also provides a substantial and very useful identification and dating section. Sprinkled throughout the book are short, informative note-like sections on a wealth of topics. The price information is accurate for the current marketplace. This is a "must-have" book for costume jewelry fans, and is suitable for individuals at all levels of knowledge and interest.
It turned out that it really wasn't what I was looking for. Great color photos but I am more interested in Weiss in particular and rhinestones. I can't afford the real expensive stuff. But the book was informative
Ms. Wiggins congratulations on a masterpiece, you have always been thorough in your research that comes through in thesepages; an easy read one does not want to put it down and I could not. Mr. Siegel your photography is breathtaking certainly a work to be enjoyed by the accomplished collector and beginner alike. I took fewer ( minor) exceptions with this guide on costume jewelry than I have in many years of reading and collecting shelves of the same. If you have to own only one, purchase this one or add it to your collection. IT IS WORTH IT!
Pamela Wiggins and her photographer Jay Siegel have created a fabulous costume jewelry guide. Book is filled with large and superb images, printed on top quality glossy pages, making the book a pleasure to peruse. Jewelry images are crisp and clear, showing all the details of the pieces, and many images of the backs, also. The images 'pop' as though they are sitting right in front of you and you can just reach out and touch them..And the content…… fabulous, as well. I don't usually find time to sit and read all the text in the guides I purchase, but this one is an exception. Pamela has a way of engaging you with her writing skills, so once you start, you just have to keep reading. She makes the information presented both extremely informative and interesting. There are so many great tips about identifying jewelry pieces and eras in this resource. This is a well done costume jewelry guide, from the content and images, right down to the printing quality, and will be a great addition to your jewelry library. I absolutely love it. I hope the author will do more books. Would love to see one dedicated to Trifari….hint, hint!
I had reviewed this book at the library before making the purchase. It is very informative, beautifully illustrated and contains detailed information about vintage, costume jewelry. I'm glad it's now a part of my personal library collection.
This beautiful, well written and photographed book is a must have for any vintage costume jewelry collector or someone interested in collecting vintage jewelry. Perhaps you will look at grandmother's "old jewelry" in a new light after reading this book.
Great reference. I loved how the book is sectioned by era, and designers along with sections on how to date pieces. Numerous beautiful pictures. Each era section begins with a narrative about the era's influences as related to costume jewelry. Every collector should have this book for reference.
