American Indian Jewelry I: 1200 Artist Biographies (American Indian Art Series)

This volume profiles over 1,200 Indian jewelers from all tribes over the past two centuries. The text is illustrated with over 2,000 photographs. This book was created with the cooperation of Indian artists. Through artist surveys, archival research and personal interviews, information was collected in 25 categories: including the artist's tribe, clan, active years, type of jewelry, lifespan, family relationships, education, teachers, students, awards, exhibitions, collections, forms, techniques, materials, favorite designs, and publications. Websites and email addresses were listed when possible. Many completed a personal statement, "I enjoy creating artwork, because..." Some wrote or narrated autobiographical statements.

This book is an excellent source and reference on Indian Jewelry. It is a must for any one who is seriously intereseted in the field. The extensive biographies and associated hallmarks are very useful.

An essential for any collector of contemporary Native American jewelry, supplementing Barton Wright's 1989 "Hallmarks of the Southwest." Great color plates depicting a variety of types and styles. Would like to have an index of hallmarks, or at least pictures of them rather than just verbal description.

A fantasic reference for the discerning collector of Indian Artifacts!! Names, Histories, Hallmarks, just about anything you can want to know! A MUST FOR THE SERIOUS COLLECTOR!

American Indian Jewelry I, is an excellent source for anyone wanting to get a basic overview of Native American artists. They are arranged alphabetically for easy location, and there are many photographs included. A wonderful overview of Indian jewelry in beautiful, full color helps to show the details of the differeces in syles crafted by the individual tribes. A wonderful source of information for anyone wanting to gain an understanding of Native American Jewelry, and the artist's who design and create it.

Lists Native American Jewelers and their jeweler's mark-this is a wonderful reference for collectors of Native American jewelery. Extensive entries with bios on most.

Bought this book as a gift. :) Huge heavy book, which is good! The recipient has 2 and 3, but not 1. FYI, it includes different artists than the ones whom are listed alphabetically in books 2 and 3! ;)

A huge work that has been very well presented. Much information together with photos both in colour and b&w. The book is presented in a cellophane wrapper and printed on quality paper. Not all artists are listed but whether that is due to size or cost I don't know. Bearing in mind there are two further volumes dedicated to jewellery (A-L and M-Z) that issue may have been addressed. My only criticism is not with the book(s) but with ......why not make these available on the uk site!
